2007 INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION

The 90th International Lutheran Laymen’s League Convention held in Duluth, Minnesota on July 26th to the 29th was attended by twenty two people from the North Dakota District. The theme of the convention was “Let Your Light Shine.”
Highlights of the convention included inspiring messages by Rev. Ken Klaus, speaker of the Lutheran Hour; Rev. Mark Muenchow, International Lutheran Laymen’s League Pastoral Advisor; and Jeffrey Williams, NASA Astronaut, who shared his experiences as an Astronaut, highlighting his 6 month tour of duty aboard the International Space Station. Rev. Muenchow was also the leader of the Bible Studies at each of the General Sessions. There were 21 educational workshops for attendees on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. Each attendee was able to attend a total of 4 workshops.
On Saturday afternoon there was a Lutheran Hour Rally at which Pastor Klaus preached the sermon.
Leona Schober, Congregational Ambassador from St. Andrew Lutheran Church in West Fargo, along with ambassadors from other LLL Districts was recognized as the outstanding Ambassador in the North Dakota District.

2008 DISTRICT CONVENTION

The North Dakota District of the International Lutheran Laymen’s League will hold their 63rd Annual Convention February 8-10, 2008 in the Minot area. Lynch Immanuel Lutheran Church of Glenburn will be the host congregation and all convention activities will be held at Lynch Immanuel. Rev. Steve Siegel will represent the International Laymen’s League at the convention.
A block of rooms will be reserved for convention participants. The information for reserving one of these rooms for individuals will be posted on the North Dakota District LLL website (www.ndlll.org).

AMBASSADOR OF THE YEAR

The North Dakota District of the International Lutheran Laymen’s League will again select an outstanding Congregational Ambassador in the district. This selection is based on the amount of awareness that the Congregation Ambassador creates in the congregation about programs of Lutheran Hour Ministries and encourages members of the congregation to participate in these programs. The outstanding Ambassador will be selected by the District President, in coordination with other district officials, based upon criteria that are fair to all. If you have an ambassador whom you feel is deserving of this award, please send his/her name with information as to why you are nominating him/her to Robert Bauer, 927 Elm Avenue, Dickinson, ND 58601-6231.

PARTY ON THE PRAIRIE

The North Dakota District LLL Disaster Response Team participated in a roofing project, because of damage caused by a hail storm in late 2006, on the Don Brandenburg farm to raise funds for financing some the District LLL activities. This project was completed on two different week-ends, May 3-5 and September 6-7. Fourteen people from around the district participated in the project. The funds raised were split between the following: Mission Scholarship Program, Young Family Convention Scholarship, Saint Andrew Mission Society Bus Wrap, Global Work and Witness Scholarships, International Lutheran Laymen’s League, and the District General Fund.

NORTH DAKOTA DISTRICT LUTHERAN LAYMEN’S LEAGUE MISSION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The North Dakota Lutheran Laymen’s League has set up a Mission Scholarship Program to help promote interest in their mission programs which may include mission trips to Mexico, disaster relief trips to aid people in time of disasters, and Global Work and Witness Trips. The Scholar-ship will be available to any Lutheran Laymen’s League member (in North Dakota all members, men and women, of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod are considered members of the Lutheran Laymen’s League) between the age of 18 and 35. After receiving the nomination (nominations may be made by anyone, and you may nominate yourself), a committee of the North Dakota District of the Lutheran Laymen’s League will send an application to the nominee for the individual to complete. Nominations may be submitted to Robert Bauer, 927 Elm Avenue, Dickinson, ND or e-mailed to jrbauer@ndsupernet.com.

PRISON MINISTRY

The North Dakota District Lutheran Laymen’s League voted to work on a prison ministry project about five years ago. After much prayer, two years ago God opened the doors so that we can now go in and bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the inmates.
The Kogudus Lutheran Renewal Prison Ministry members have asked us to go into the North Dakota prisons at New England, Bismarck, and Jamestown with them. The North Dakota Prison Administration has invited us to come into each one of these prisons twice a year, usually in April and December. The fields are white unto harvest.
I pray that each LLL member and each congregation member will pray about taking the Christ-centered Gospel to inmates in our prisons. May God bless you and keep you.
Matthew 25:39 “And when did we see you sick or in prison and come unto you?”

INTERNATIONAL LUTHERAN LAYMEN’S LEAGUE 2008 CONVENTION

The International Lutheran Laymen's League Convention will be held July 24th to the 27th this summer in Lexington, Kentucky.  The North Dakota Lutheran Laymen's League will once again be taking a bus to the convention.  Our hope is that we will fill the bus with the North Dakota District Lutheran Laymen's League, picking up most of the bus cost.
The plan is to leave from North Dakota on Tuesday, July 22nd.  We will have a full day of travel, staying overnight somewhere in Indiana.  On Wednesday we will proceed on, stopping in Cincinnati to view the new Creationism Museum, and arrive in Lexington that evening.  We will then leave Lexington on Saturday, July 26th, after the Lutheran Hour Rally.  We will drive a few hours and then spend the night, so that we can make it the rest of the way back on Sunday.
If you have any interest or questions about this trip, please contact Kirk Rosin at 701-347-5279 or e-mail krosin@juno.com, or Bob Bauer at 701-483-4035 or e-mail at jrbauer@ndsupernet.com . After January 1, we will be opening up any unreserved seats to people from the neighboring states.  At that point, all seats will be given out on a first come, first serve basis until the bus is full.
We are looking forward to an exciting trip and convention, and would love to fill the bus with North Dakota people.

North Dakota Disaster Response

The North Dakota Lutheran Laymen's League Disaster Response is looking for volunteers that may be interested in working on a project for people who have suffered from a recent disaster.
There are many options available, and the Disaster Response is considering these possibilities.  There is still work to be done in Northwood, North Dakota, from the tornado this summer.  Southern Minnesota has set up a work camp for volunteers to work out of.  This is to assist the people of southern Minnesota that were flooded by heavy rains this summer.  We are also considering a possible trip in December to Camp Restore in New Orleans.  Then there is the possibility of an annual trip we have made the last three years to Florida in February or March, to help hurricane victims.
If you would like any more information or have any interest in any of these projects, please contact Kirk Rosin at 701-347-5279 or e-mail krosin@juno.com, or Bob Bauer at 701-483-4035 or e-mail at jrbauer@ndsupernet.com.

CHINESE MINISTRY

For those of you that may not have received the news yet, the Chinese couple, Paul & Ruth, sponsored by the North Dakota Lutheran Laymen's League and working with the Chinese in North Dakota, returned to China in August.  They felt that the two years they spent here were well spent, but also had a longing to go back and work to share the Gospel in China.
The North Dakota LLL was very pleased with the success of this program.  Relationships have been developed, and work continues on with the Chinese, not only in North Dakota, but also in China.  Bibles and Christian materials are being provided to China, and the possibilities of building a church in China are being explored as a future project.
