DISCRIPTION OF TRIPS

MISSION TRIP TO MEXICO – This trip is sponsored by the St. Andrew Mission Society of St Andrew Lutheran Church of West Fargo. This trip usually takes place at the end of January and the beginning of February. The group leaves West Fargo early on Saturday morning the last Saturday of January and returns to West Fargo late afternoon to early evening on the first Sunday of February. Generally we drive two long days, St. Andrew Missions Society Bus, and sleeping in a church on air-mattresses.

In the past we have worked at Lutheran Missions through the Latin American Lutheran Mission of Laredo, Texas or the Yselta Lutheran Mission of El Paso, Texas. Activities include; conducting Bible Classes for the children at the mission, distributing clothing and toys, participating in Worship Services, and building. When working just across the border we return each evening to sleep at the missions. If we are unable to return to the United States each evening, we sleep at the mission we are helping.

This is a great opportunity to share the love of Jesus and to witness your faith in Jesus as your Lord and Savior.

DISASTER RESPONSE TRIPS

If the disaster is local plans depend on the situation. Planned trips to provide assistance to disaster victims from natural disaster such as hurricanes travel to the location is similar to the Mission Trips to Mexico. However, generally the group is smaller and we travel by vans and cars instead of the bus and we may stay in hotels instead of staying in churches on the way there. At the location, the local sponsoring organization makes arrangements for us to stay. In the past we have stayed in private homes, at a camp sleeping on cots in a tent, in a church sleeping on cots, and in a church sleeping on air-mattresses.

Activities include; cleaning up debris, gutting houses, roofing, hanging sheet rock, taping sheet rock, texturing sheet rock, and painting.

Again, this is a great opportunity to share the love of Jesus and witness your faith in Jesus as your Lord and Savior.

GLOBAL WORK AND WITNESS

Global Work and Witness provides short term volunteer opportunities that are a unique chance to learn about another country through authentic cross cultural experience, serving by completing a service project in partnership with a Lutheran Hour Ministries international center, and to share the love of Jesus through words and action. A Global Work and Witness trip is not a typical tourist experience. You will partner with LHM field staff and volunteers, who are native to the country you are visiting, in reaching people with Christ’s love. You will enjoy friendship with fellow believers sharing their faith in their home country. This too is a trip that could change your life. There is a possibility that there could be a trip scheduled for China this fall.
