Disaster Response

What We Are Planning to Do

There are three big opportunities to help out in North Dakota right now.

1. Minot Flood Relief

A note from Kirk and Judy Rosin who are heading up LLL relief efforts there.

Greetings everyone,

We are starting to move forward with things at Minot. Judy and I will be going up there tomorrow (Sunday). The water has been dropping, and the people already have started work. We will know more about specifics once we get there.

A couple of immediate needs where we are looking for volunteers would be at St. Mark's church. The water came within about 20' of the church. It has receded now, and they are starting to get things back. I heard last week they got their phones back and their computers up. We intend to work with them to help contact their members to attempt to find out who may need what help and where. We could probably use a couple of people to help us do this. We hope to do this the first part of next week. St. Mark's also would like to have places for about six RV's or trailers to hook up in their parking lot. If anyone has expertise in this area, it would be greatly appreciated. Also, if there is anyone out there who could possibly set up the hookups for these trailers, that would also be great.

These are just the immediate needs we are aware of. Please let me know if any of this looks like something the Lord is calling you to do.

God bless,
Kirk

2011 Minot Flooding

2. Flooding in Rural North Dakota - several homes all throughout North Dakota have experienced a variety of flooding this spring. Lutheran Disaster Response has had numerous individual calls asking for help. We are in the process of working with LDR to respond to those calls. Please contact Kirk Rosin if you are feeling called to help or want to sign up to be on the email list when updates come out. This is a great opportunity to be a witness for Christ and to minster to people's needs.

3. Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Bismarck - they just recently purchased a building and are in the process of remodeling it from a dog kennel into a church. Visit their website at http://www.holycrossbismarck.org/Holy_Cross_Lutheran_Church/Renovation_Project.html to view specifics about their project. They currently have a timeline of projects and what their needs are.

Who We Are

The North Dakota Lutheran Laymen's League has organized a disaster response team. This is a group of lay people who volunteer to assist needy people in reconstruction and clean up after a disaster has occurred.
